ohanian.dev is the utility domain for a personal, self-hosted Home Assistant instance. It runs on hardware in a single household and is used by one person — the domain owner.
This is not a commercial product and not a public service. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and nothing here to log into. The site exists to publish the privacy policy and terms of service for the Google Cloud project that the Home Assistant instance uses to connect to the owner's own Google account.
What it does
Home Assistant is open-source home automation software. This instance runs locally and handles the ordinary things such a system does:
- Dashboards showing the state of the house — temperature, devices, schedules.
- Automations that respond to time, presence, and device state (for example, adjusting heating around calendar events or when nobody is home).
- Direct control of connected devices from a phone or browser on the home network.
Google account data it uses
The instance connects to the owner's own Google account through Google's official APIs, authorized with OAuth 2.0. It requests access to:
- Google Calendar Reads calendar events so automations can respond to the household's schedule — for example, warming the house before a morning appointment.
- Google Nest (Smart Device Management) Reads and controls the state of Nest devices already owned by the household, so thermostats and related devices can be managed alongside everything else in Home Assistant.
Access is granted by the account owner and can be withdrawn at any time from Google Account permissions.
Where that data goes
Nowhere. Data retrieved from Google is used only by the Home Assistant instance on the household's own private network, and is stored on the household's own hardware. It is not sold, not shared with third parties, not used for advertising, and not sent to any server operated by anyone else. This website itself collects nothing — it has no analytics, no cookies, and no scripts.
